Welcome to BoBo Feed

BoBo is a French expression, short for Bourgeois Bohème, and it pretty much describes who we are.

Bobo Feed will be sharing things that inspire us or please us-
from the worlds of architecture & design, fashion & styling, food and drink, travel, urban living, whatever...

We hope you enjoy.

What if Our Favourite Colour Didn't Exist

This fascinating article, which is inspired by what the writer found to be a fascinating podcast (linked inside the article), posits that in ancient times there was no such thing as the colour blue.
Although the atmosphere overhead has always existed in the same format as we know it, there was no collective definition of the colour therefore nobody technically could perceive that the sky was/is blue. (At least not in a way that allowed them to differentiate it substantively from other colours)

We've always been intrigued by the way in which human perception is moulded by our ability- or propensity- to describe an experience, and this is a classic example. Did the ancients never marvel at the exquisite tones of a Mediterranian azure (Well, according to the piece they compared it to wine!), or attempt to describe the hues of a glacial crevice? (This must have fallen into one of the ways they described icy white).

Let's not split (fashionably blue) hairs on whether reality is in the describing; since we can now appreciate it let's just take a moment to appreciate a few recent blue Toronto moments!

Pizzeria Via Mercanti...forno and football!

We can't really explain why it took us so long to discover Via Mercanti. I guess we tend to be prisoners to our own routines much of the time, and because we always have pizza on Friday nights we are not inclined to have it again for Saturday lunch. Fortunately, though, we recently found ourselves in Kensington Market at lunchtime for the second day in a row one recent weekend, and it happened to be a Sunday. Via Mercanti's windows were wide open and Confederations Cup soccer from Brazil was on all the screens- Italy vs. Uruguay to determine third place- and the boisterous and infectious atmosphere just drew us in. Being liberated from our Saturday pizza embargo, we didn't hesitate!

Once inside we could appreciate the authenticity of the place: A great beehive forno behind the prep area, pizzaioli who were right off the last Alitalia flight, barely a word of English in earshot. We were in heaven!
And the pizza certainly didn't disappoint! Thin crust, slightly blistered chewy rim, molten toppings, spicy oil on the table- perfetto!
Finally, of course, a great espresso macchiato to send us back out into the Kensington crowds!  Arrivederci, Via Mercanti!
Molto buono!!
