We recently wrote about the cool posters used to promote last season's Festival de Otoño (Autumn Festival) in Buenos Aires. This festival brought musicians working in the wide-ranging genre of "world music" to that city last April, and several of the artists immediately caught our eyes & ears.

The duo of María João & Mário Laginha from Lisbon just took our breath away. The song Beatriz, featured on the festival site, is haunting and the visuals quite stunning.
A little further reading up on these two eventually led us to the video below, a gorgeous remake of Björk's "Unravel". As soon as iTunes has it available (have you processed our request yet, Apple?) we'll be adding this one to our library.
Diego El Cigala is a Spanish Flamenco star who may be known to some of you for the Flamenco/Cuban fusion album of a few years back called Lágrimas Negras. At the festival Diego presented

Mísia is a Portuguese Fado singer with a really powerful voice. The Fado genre is all about mournful longing & although this clip isn't for the pure traditional Fado style, Mísia certainly evokes the emotions of the genre very well.

Goran Bregovic is a Sarajevo-born musician who performs with his Wedding & Funeral Band.
From a Wikipedia entry on the artist:
"Bregović performs with a large ensemble of musicians. A brass band, bagpipes, a string ensemble, a tuxedo-clad all-male choir from Belgrade, and traditional Bulgarian and Roma singers make up his 40-piece band and orchestra."
